Beans Coffee Club

Richard wanted a subscription model he couldn't get off the shelf.

His coffee subscription selections needed to be individually tailored to each user's selected preferences such that each users experience of the subscription was unique.

Examples of additional functionality include:

  • Users were able to review their coffees in a personal coffee journal.
  • Users could repeat or reject their coffees based on their personal rating of the coffees they receive.
  • Users could change their coffee preferences without interrupting their subscription.
  • Richard could assess the popularity of specific coffees based on their ratings and reviews from users.

After building a thriving online business with this site, Richard was able to use it as part of his pitch to gain funding for a fully bespoke built, much more ambitious, website. I was part of the team that designed and built the functionality for that site, too.

Website for Berkshire Holistic Beauty by developer Stephen Jordan-Toll

Berkshire Holistic Beauty

  • Plain old HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Built to be fast, efficient and fully responsive.

Joolz runs her company, Berkshire Holistic Beauty, from Maidenhead where she offers massage, and relaxing pamper packages.

She wanted a simple, nice looking site to showcase her services, display her price list and act as an online calling card.

Previously, she'd had a Wordpress website because she had heard she would be able to update the content herself. As it turned out, she found Wordpress itself needed regular updating, and changing the text was not as straight forward as she had thought.

She also realised she didn't update the site nearly as often as expected.

This time, she wanted me to provide something that looked the part and was easy to use.

She also wanted something that didn't need regular updates and so was cost effective to maintain.

I was able to build her a nice one page site, with everything she needed - showing her services, with a price list, testimonials and a easy way to contact her.

She tells me it's just what she needed.

Jatinder setup his dental practice, Dental Wellbeing, over 15 years ago and was still on his first website.

He came to me with a basic design he like the look of and asked me to build it for him using modern techniques to improve his client experience.

His previous website had servered him well, but was looking dated and, crucially, lacked the ability to include all the functionality his thriving dental practice could benefit from.

Initially, he was looking for something modern, that was easy to maintain, but also easy to add functionality to

I was able to build him a nice responsive, with a modular PHP structure, that would allow the site to be dynamic and integrate with other systems and service providers, as needed.

We are looking forward to working together, to build him a site that serves well his clients and his staff.

About me

Front end developer Stephen Jordan-Toll

When I started working on the web, in the late 'Noughties', IE5.5 was a thing, XHTML1.0 was the new kid on the block and everyone was raving about CSS2.1 and how we should stop using tables to design layouts.

I've been interested in computers and programming since the early '80s. I've been interested in how people work for even longer, so I take great interest in how the two interact.

As a result I endeavour to build user-centered, responsive, & semantic web experiences.

Among many others, I'd like to think the following books and websites have influenced how I think about people and the web:

As well as providing a good technical service - I try to be co-operative, flexible and friendly to the people I work with.

I believe in building partnerships for on-going co-operation, and I'm happy to maintain the projects I work on.

What Dental Wellbeing say about me...

From the very initial stages of analysis of my requirements and preferences, the format and style of the website, through to hosting and actually setting up the site and subsequent reviews of the finished site, everything was taken care of professionally and promptly. I was relieved and extremely pleased to have been introduced to Steve.”

So we started Beans Coffee Club a couple of years ago. We were looking for a developer who could build a website with bespoke functionality but in a cost effective and flexible way. Steve has been able to find a solution for every requirement which came up. As we launched with an MVP and tested new ideas there was a need for constant iteration and new functionality and Steve was able to advise on best approach to test things so that our investments were always optimised. We have been able to test and learn and build gradually based on insight and we now have a market leading website experience which is able to compete with some of the other businesses which have significant private investment. Our website and the backend technology is our business differentiator and I do not believe we would be where we are without Steve's expertise.”

Steve is a life saver. He has got me out of two disasters where my e-commerce website went down resulting in me not being able to accept any customer orders.

Neither issue was straightforward but Steve managed to fix it on both occasions and was honest about the outlook and the options I had.

I have complete faith in his ability I would highly recommend his services.
